Karen Spracklen: My favorite memory for this year is also the week of Goba, After three days of up and down some pretty steep hills , I approached a hill I thought would never end and finally the top of the hill was in sight. Wow I am exhausted, but the downhill goes on forever too. The road was newly paved and a rider ahead of me took off. I did not think twice, I was right behind him. As we neared the end he yelled back to me "42 mph!" I sat upright and coasted for quite a distance, smiling all the while. My helmet needed adjusted and I was off again, but with a renewed sense of adventure. That downhill was something that I had never before experienced. A week of wonderful memories with the family I love and dear friends that did everything they could to make our week wonderful. Thanks Dan and Alex !
Dan Sheridan: I couldn't settle on just one ride, so here are my "top ten" favorites for the year)
New Years's Day, riding to Big Island Wildlife Area with Lucy. It was 18 degrees, but beautiful. Our water bottles turned to slush, the ponds were frozen, but we smiled the entire way. A Sunday ride in February, riding along the river north of Prospect with Lucy. Snow covered everything, including part of the road, but it was cold enough that it wasn't slippery. A solo spring ride, encountering three beautiful trumpeter swans in a farm pond near Ridgedale HS. An early summer ride with my son Alex and Dan and Sara Spracklen. We rode to the Schwartz Covered Bridge, and then to an active eagle's nest, where the kids got their first look at wild bald eagles. Sherry Denman's ride…beautiful weather and a great route….we saw many Amish people, including a large group hiking in Lawrence Woods. Riding in the beautiful hills on GOBA, riding through the spray from garden hoses, having squirt gun battles, enjoying good friends, and camping a few feet from an ice cream stand. A Saturday morning club ride to the Oorang Bang festival in Larue. Coming home down a closed road, we crossed a stream by carrying our bikes and walking across a narrow steel beam. The Wednesday night club ride where our members became "the stars in the Star." Two days of riding in Michigan and Ontario with Fr. Jim Klima, Dan Spracklen, and Corky Cusick, as Fr. Jim cycled across the continent. The Ox Roast ride on September 2nd, where Dan Spracklen and I celebrated my 44th birthday by riding my 44th Century Ride. Most recently, a Thanksgiving ride with Lucy, her first trip out on her new bike!
